A Veteran’s Exhortation

Poem:

Like old times, let us all gather and praise

And remember the values of Old Glory;

Let us imbibe its essence and raise

Our cups of devotion that sustain us;

Let the good times of freedom

Keep giving us hope

That peace be achieved altogether,

And not drift away from our vision and scope

In this stormy, political weather.

Let the squabbles of parties not ever destroy

The dreams of retaining the pleasure

Of breathing the air of sweet liberty

We consider to be our treasure.

Let us do what is right in spite of the storm,

Let us be alert and caring,

Let us love one another,

With bravery and daring,

Like the good, old days of yore,

Let the parties not keep on endlessly warring,

But retaining our freedom evermore.
