Limbo

A Commentary:

One could imagine, Snowden’s state of mind at this critical juncture in his life.  He might be feeling as if he is stuck in an elevator that does not open. The feeling might be tantamount to one of claustrophobia. In this particular instance, let us coin it as “Russiophobia,” Literally, he would have been better off in an elevator from where he would, sooner or later, be rescued.  Suspended in a diplomatic limbo could be at once terrifying. One might wonder why he is silent at this juncture, instead of criticizing Putin’s blatant land grab. The answer is simple:  He is not living in a country where he could do what he wanted and get away with it.

The Russian government is definitely having him monitored constantly for fear that he might also reveal and publicize some of their secrets. He should have known that politics is a “game” that all major powers play, not just the United States.

I feel no compunction nor remorse for any man in the category of Snowden whose hypocrisy is evidenced by the fact that he would not dare provoke Putin’s monstrous unpredictability at this juncture.

Sweet Composure

Poem

The key to a life

In constant strife

And stubborn exposure

To stress and strain

Again and again,

Is sweet composure.

Ah, but how can we

Advisedly flee

From tension that

Presses so  much

That we, as such

May not combat?

No matter what,

A life that’s fraught

With pressures galore

May not be apt

To full adapt

To life as before.

Let’s be candid and straight,

If we fuss and wait

Too long, instead

Of doing what’s right

To slow down the plight,

We may sooner be dead.

Little Poem Of Mine

Little poem of mine, recite your way

Into a lonely heart where shadows play;

Oh, if you could only brighten its day!

Little poem of mine, gladden a soul,

Lost in confusion, far from its goal,

Bogged in illusion, out of its role.

Explain away sadness, melt away fear,

Strengthen a weakness, wipe off a tear,

Expel freakishness of thoughts unclear.

Lift up a spirit abused and neglected,

Quicken acceptance of a soul rejected,

Trigger a feeling well-directed.

And if one heart, one soul be raised,

Hope ignited, a spirit blazed,

 Consider this poem rightfully praised.

Faith

Poem:

How often do we feel secure

In faith and its belief,

The more so when we’re not sure

 Of healing and relief –

  Such deep conviction, plain and pure,

   Mitigates our grief!

    Faith in ourselves, our work,

     And what we rightly do,

      From which we shouldn’t ever shirk

       But with our faith renew;

        Shadows there might be that lurk,

          But faith might get us through.

Promise

Poem:

Oh, let us each promise —

A promise to keep:

Love’s harvest of bliss

Be ours to reap;

That such an attainment —

Your true love and mine —

Shall stand up unbent

And eternally shine;

That no trouble adverse,

Nor sorrow that be

Come near us to curse

Our love that is free!

Our years when maturing

Stay seasoned with love

With freedom enduring,

As from heaven above;

That doubt be behind us,

Nor shadows be haunting,

And true love that bind us

Never be wanting

In radiance like flowers

That gorgeously bloom,

Letting love’s hours

Be empty of gloom.

Oh, let us each promise

 That we reap and treasure,

  Love’s heavenly bliss,

   Complete, in full measure!

Inner Beauty

It doesn’t matter how so plain

Or rough the crust may be;

The kernel is what truly counts —

 The part we cannot see.

                                                                  A piece of land perceived as good

                                                                   And ripe for human toil,

                                                                    May yet prove unproductive

                                                                     Without the proper soil.

Can we appraise the sabre

While still within its sheath,

Or comprehend the ocean

Unless we look beneath?

                                                                        Sights we often fail to see

                                                                          And thoughtlessly pass by,

                                                                           May yet be those that satisfy

                                                                            The palate, not the eye.

Two Faces

Poem:

Sweet is honey

busy bees bring;

yet, so painful

is their sting.

Joy of having

possessions may not

positively favor

recipients, as thought.

It may be

today or tomorrow

possessors may be

stung with sorrow.

Neither power nor

grandeur of wealth

may safely converge

at points of health.

Things of pleasure

 found in places

  may reflect

   two different faces.

What Does It Mean To Be A United States Citizen

To be a United States citizen is to enjoy freedom in general. At all times, good or bad, the rewards gained by being a part of the fabric of this country’s multifaceted democracy are undeniably unparalleled, regardless of economic and political setbacks. No country is entirely infallible. Freedom in the United States does not means that its citizens are exempt from being subject to problems that occur from time to time, which, by the way, does not nullify the privileges that its citizens exercise and continue to enjoy. What we are witnessing today is not the gloom and doom of our basic freedom. There are those outside of our borders who are still working hard to legally immigrate to the United States, for the reason that this is where things can happen, in spite of economic reversals. Historically, the resilience of the United States is well- known. Its ability to turn things around has made it one of the world’s most resourceful democracies.

In spite of weaknesses in certain areas, the United States stands firm on principles that are expressively incorporated in its Constitution. Its system of justice is established along the lines that were advocated and enforced by its founding fathers. Nobody is above the law and no corruption in any branch of its administration is tolerated. The instruments of law are used under all circumstances. As an example, after years of denying the right of habeas-corpus to prisoners in Guantanamo, a majority of judges finally ruled that, in keeping with the United States Constitution, such prisoners are entitled to appeal their detention, in spite of the severity of their crime, proving thereby that, regardless of the length of time that it had taken for the invocation of such a law, the judges have found it fit to declare that its application must include even America’s sworn enemies.

There is presently a deep sense of disagreement between Republicans and Democrats, but, as Americans, the need to consolidate our freedom remains the same. The difference is the method of approach to problems, the common objective being the necessary circumvention of obstacles that is the concern of all U.S. citizens. It is the right of every citizen to express his or her opinion, for or against candidates, espousing diverse views, which is a form of freedom in itself. It is one of the many privileges that citizens of the United States enjoy, and no adversity, economic or political, could adulterate the essence of this time-honored freedom.
