A Commentary:
One could imagine, Snowden’s state of mind at this critical juncture in his life. He might be feeling as if he is stuck in an elevator that does not open. The feeling might be tantamount to one of claustrophobia. In this particular instance, let us coin it as “Russiophobia,” Literally, he would have been better off in an elevator from where he would, sooner or later, be rescued. Suspended in a diplomatic limbo could be at once terrifying. One might wonder why he is silent at this juncture, instead of criticizing Putin’s blatant land grab. The answer is simple: He is not living in a country where he could do what he wanted and get away with it.
The Russian government is definitely having him monitored constantly for fear that he might also reveal and publicize some of their secrets. He should have known that politics is a “game” that all major powers play, not just the United States.
I feel no compunction nor remorse for any man in the category of Snowden whose hypocrisy is evidenced by the fact that he would not dare provoke Putin’s monstrous unpredictability at this juncture.
